The Mysterious -S- Offers A Meditative Journey Through the Experience of Killing Time

The enigmatic band, -S- has crafted a compelling EP of what the band itself deems to be dark, occult funk. The title of the EP, Zabijanie Czasu, roughly translated as “The Killing of Time”, represents the first part of a planned trilogy devoted to the notion of Time. In the brief information offered about the release, we receive the following in this poignant paragraph to guide our understanding…

Awkward meditations over the obliqueness of Chronos and its imaginary emanations.
An experiment in imagination: accomplished future past and perpetual incompleteness composed for 110bpm and 26:02 minutes.
A blindfold breaking of the sigil of horror and solace.
A shiftless immersion into the formless chasm of fertility and decline.
An outburst of furious hope and utmost exasperation.
TIME DOES NOT HEAL. TIME THWARTS.”

The album begins with a steady rhythm of cymbals and drums over distant and ghostly vocals that act as the beginning disclaimer to a journey into a strange and meditative performance throughout the single track’s 26 minutes.

There is a sense of foreboding throughout the sinister strumming of guitar strings with the eerie addition of an almost whimsical clarinet that projects a mysterious path that will only end in an isolated horror of a metaphysical design. The singular track does a remarkable job of slowly enveloping the listener into its world of occult secrets without offering any true answers to the cryptic passages uttered throughout. Much like Time itself, there is a subtle fear that is left in the subconscious after the track ends when we realize that the journey we’ve taken has come to the most unexpected end.

Ultimately this EP has proven that -S- has much to offer in terms of quality and sheer magnitude of sound design. Don’t miss out on this provocative album. If you’re a fan of bands such as The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble and Bohren & der Club of Gore, you may very well find yourself right at home with this release.
