Obey the Orchestra of the Night in 'The Sanguine Lament' by Vampyrean Tomb

To put it plainly, The Sanguine Lament’ by the Vampyrean Tomb is just what Dr. Acula ordered for the Spooky Season. Released October 2nd and recorded by the light of the moon, this ode to the bloodsucker hit shelves with 25 beautiful black cassettes, all which, unfortunately, already sold out. Don’t fret, dear reader, The Sanguine Lament is still available for digital purchase on Bandcamp, and, who knows, the dead are always apt to rise once more.

Our creature crawls forth from his coffin, candle in hand, and makes his way to his piano to perform for the night. In Her Blood, My Life we are transported to a time unfamiliar to the modern mortal. Guided by the steady hand of our composer and the yearnful litanies of the lost, we make our way towards the eternal Vampyean Kingdom. Building from the first track, the journey into the Kingdom of the Vampyre introduces the ominous tones of the phantom organ. As a thunderstorm belts the Count’s Castle, he begins to perform the rites for his next sanguine serenade.

In a Crimson Repose, our vampiric host begins to exert his full mastery of the keys and lure the listener into a mournful rest. It’s best to make use of this period, for you’ll surely need it for the impending dance with the devil. With a pleasant variation in tempo, the toe-tapper Csárdás teleports us to the infested hills of Hungary. Here, the creatures of the night are many. This track stands as a perfection transition, a preparation for the fifth selection entitled Storm and Darkness Ye are Wond’rous Strong. As the storm outside continues, the pale pianist composes his final piece for the evening.

Combing all previously established elements into a final and fantastic lamentation, The Sanguine Lament is everything an ode to the undead should be. This is a near ten minute epic of sinful sorrow, filled with a host of vampyric variations. I, for one, am glad the artist chose to save this one for last. It’s easy to imagine our host closing out this evening’s entertainment with this last litany, just before the sun’s rays penetrate the room. As the session comes to an end, our composer returns to his coffin. Do yourself and your Halloween guests a favor and pick up The Sanguine Lament by Vampyrean Tomb NOW!
