Seregost and Erythrite Throne Storm the Gates of the Obsidian Kingdom
If you happened to miss the inaugural incantation woven by the staff and steel of Erythrite Throne and Seregost, A Sacrilegious Ritual Upon Once Holy Ground, the diabolical duo have returned and arrived at the Gates of the Obsidian Kingdom. When two of the more prominent and prolific creators in the genre share the same crypt, what’s produced is nothing short of perfect darkness. You’ll want to capture these cassettes for your collection once they’ve available via Obsidian Relic Records in late November.
Featuring once again the artwork of the mighty Artem Astaroth, the listener is lured beyond the gates before our maestros of the macabre have a chance to strike up their sinister symphonies. Astaroth manages to conjure the images crafted by these artists with phantasmal precision. Knights of nightmare, clad in blackened armor, march ever forward to the Obsidian Kingdom. .
Erythrite Throne leads the ritual with an eerie slither through the night with ‘The Rebirth of Hatred’. Channeling visions of ruin and wonder, we are ushered forth ‘To Violate Angelic Sanctuary’ in the second track of the album. This is one of my personal favorite Erythrite Throne tracks, ever. For any fans of retro horror, the vocals here are reminiscent of post-possession Angela in Night of the Demons. I can’t think of a cooler compliment, honestly. The first half of the ritual concludes masterfully with ‘The Ancients Tears of Baal (Conquering the Light) and ‘A Festering Sore of Malice’ to lead us into the Seregost side of the split.
To say the Seregost causes a certain shift in the atmosphere is an understatement. Imagine, if you will, John Carpenter himself, brandishing sword in hand, charging the battlefield wearing nothing but a loin cloth and a Michael Myers mask. If you’re not sold on that sound early and often, I’m not sure why you’re here. The tones of Conan Carpenter begin at the’ Crystal Gates of the Astral Ways’ and transition seamlessly into ‘Their Black Blades Sing the Songs of Ruin’. It must be stated that the chemistry between Seregost and Erythrite Throne is almost palpable in both of their splits. It would seem as if these two sages of synth have spelled together in eons past.
In ‘Divinations of the Cosmic Harbingers’ , Seregost begins to prepare us for our final battle, a lesson in how ‘To Walk the Fiery Stones’. Two of my favorite tracks from two of my favorite dungeon synth artist are featured on this split. As I said, ‘To Violate Angelic Sanctuary’ stands out as does ‘To Walk the Fiery Stones’. The buildup is over, we have now arrived at the gates at Seregost beckons all to tear them from their hinges. At the Gates of the Obsidian Kingdom is available for digital purchase now on Bandcamp, but you’ll want to keep on eye out for the physical copies of this one. These two masters of their craft deserve your support.
