Finnish Emissaries Morketida Return with a Blistering Quadriparte of Blackened Blasts

One of Finland's best-kept secrets, Morketida return with a mini-album offering, Traveler of the Untouched Void. The Finnish emissaries of blackened mysticism return in full force with a blistering quadripartite compendium of blackened blasts clocking in at twenty-two minutes in total length, and is a dichotomy of almost whimsical allure at times, but quickly dissolves into furious flurries of (un)righteous, angry guitar sawing and drum pulses, carried by the sickening guttural croaks of the vocals.

These four tracks contain more depth and form than many full-length albums, while also taking time to explore sonic departures with seemingly hypnotic rhythms; rhythms that seem to meander, however merely act as a lure - a way to lull the listener into a false sense of calm, for no sooner has the ear become accustomed to the whimsical trot than the rhythm drives head first into comfortable, chilling, black metal.

Flourishes of synths and keys lilt into the weave of the music at times, notably at the very beginning, when a calming, serene choir synth invokes the listener, inviting them to sit and listen... and quickly issues the creed of this album's intent by pummeling the remainder of the song into submission. This album seems to follow this pattern, as a way of slowly ushering the musical narrative forward; never boring, and never derivative, the songs sew their blackened threads into the quilt of the necroverse, cold and pallid, aided by their production that hearkens to the 90's era of black metal, yet containing reserve only afforded by experienced mix engineering.

Traveler of the Untouched Voids released April 24, 2020, through Werewolf Records, and is available on 12" vinyl and in digital format.
