Explore Lifeless Grounds with Sjellos

A Decade has lapsed, and Sjellos returns to Cryo Chamber with an all-new cinematic soundscape. Much has changed in the ten years, Cryo Chamber is no longer the fledgeling label it once was, and Sjellos has shown that time only hones one’s skills, as Lifeless Ground is a standout showcase for the genre of cinematic ambience, as well as staying true to the formulae of dark ambient. Composed by Tibor Knopf, these ten tracks serve as a guided meditation of sorts, among decrepit alien corridors, fallow grounds on far distant shores, and lifeless husks drifting along the eddies of the void. Sjellos is the soundtrack for the imagination of wandering abandoned alien spacecraft, dread and imposing, and the wonder of exploration combined with the fear of the impending unknown, and all of this is what the listener can expect from Lifeless Ground.

A brief droning pad and subtle, percussive rhythm from the first track, “Coma State” warm the palate, as the second track, “Machines Walking” begin to deliver what this album does best: cinematic awe and foreboding. The songs in this album have a grandiose design to them - imagine slightly more flamboyant Lustmord - epic in scale and scope, yet all of them are contained in a reserved, refined method, never straying from the disciplines of the dark ambient genre.

Sjellos arrives from the void after ten years to deliver one of the strongest releases of the year, and old and new fans of the genre would do well to listen to one of the finest practitioners of this style of dark ambient. You can purchase Lifeless Ground in CD digipak and digital formats on the Cryo Chamber bandcamp page.
