Hear The Voice of Serenity in the new album from ProtoU

A gentle reverberation of sonic warmth, and the melody of birdsong greet the listener as the newest album from ProtoU unfurls. Placid evocations gentle repast, The Voice of Serenity is aptly named, and it is great to hear composer Sasha Puzan once again painting the sonic landscape with her inimitable talent. This album is a continuance of styles, a maintaining of the aural quality as we have not heard from ProtoU since the split with Dronny Darko, Acoustics of Shadows. This new release, The Voice of Serenity, is exactly that: a serene journey through the natural, and also a parallel, haunting journey through the unnatural.

A delicate weaving of field recordings and manipulated electronics are used interchangeably, as the songs gently evolve into each other, the former coalescing to the latter, all while sitting on atonal beds of ambient warmth, signature flourishes from ProtoU. Accompanying Sasha on two tracks are Fractalyst and Skrika joins in another, both adding their own discernible, sonic signatures. The track, “Drowned in Silence” (featuring Fractalyst) introduces slight haunting, scratching electronics, while subtle female choir and pads fill in the void. The track featuring Skrika, “Resonance” is yet another haunting overture, creating a vast, empty void in the mind, to be filled with the resonating of subtle high-frequency waves, and minute undercurrents of atonal foundations. In all, ProtoU shows yet again a defined mastery of sonic crafting sure to please fans of subtle soundscapes and ambient.

The Voice of Serenity is available in CD digipak and digital formats on the Cryo Chamber bandcamp page.
