God Body Disconnect Continues our Narrative Tour Through the Beyond

One of the most iconic artists on the Cryo Chamber roster returns with his newest chapter in the delvings of the deceased. Bruce Moallem’s ambient project, God Body Disconnect has set itself apart with a continuing through-line narrative teasing atmospheres of classic noire tropes, evoking feelings of a darker David Lynch film, even the grainy filters of David Fincher. As I am always a fan of narrative and continuity, it was welcoming to hear our deceased protagonist’s voice once again. If you are unaware or confused with my previous sentence, I invite you to go to the beginning of this ethereal saga - Dredge Portals. The Dormancy continues the languorous meanderings of a recently deceased gentleman (the victim of a gunshot), and our narrator simply drifts along the ephemera, thinking of past actions and situations, musing upon emotional and existential philosophies and events the perhaps led him to this place, however since he is trapped in a coma, we are carried with him as he continues his quest to either awaken and regain his body, or sever the cord of life and finally pass through to the next life.

Time is relative, even laboriously slowed with these albums, as our narrator drifts aimlessly along the Purgatorial breeze of existence, and composer Bruce Moallem has gone to great lengths to ensure this album is never in a hurry to arrive at any specific conclusion. This is one of the strengths of God Body Disconnect, and The Dormancy is no exception. Ominous drones open the album, with metallic scrapes and sounds that may in fact be our [friend’s] body being delivered to a morgue, or perhaps something more? Our narrator muses once more about his situation, while also ruminating upon events of the past that led him to this particular junction in reality, and the beauty of the writing of this album is the great amount of detail that has been left to the listener - with no definite clues or on-the-nose exposition, we are granted a subdued collection of droning tracks and ambience that quite honestly fit as perfect background music for writing, and other artistic pursuits.

It is quite a feat for an artist to maintain narrative and musical excellence for so many albums sequentially, and yet, here is the newest album from God Body Disconnect, The Dormancy, proving that it can be done. You can get The Dormancy and other God Body Disconnect albums from Cryo Chamber on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page in CD Digipak and digital format.
