Blazon Rite Raise Their Swords On Primal Debut EP
“War is very sweet to those who have never tried it.”
Blazon Rite’s 2020 EP “Dulce Bellum Inexpertis” is a welcomed addition to the NWOTHM movement that offers a unique take on the traditional metal genre while blazing its own trail as a standout in a crowded field of contenders.
Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Blazon Rite’s first EP is a remarkable slab of traditional metal infused with atmospheric layers of synth and commanding vocals that mark it as a standout for one of this year's best releases in the heavy metal genre. Each song seems to evoke the forebearers of the genre (Manilla Road, Liege Lord, Slough Feg, etc) while finding their own magnificent niche in terms of composition and execution. The EP is a marching force of riffs and powerful vocals calling for the listener to raise their sword arm for the cause of metal mayhem. This slice of music majesty is hopefully only a taste of what Blazon Rite plans to offer its ever-growing fanbase in the future.
It’s difficult to pick one song from the distressingly short 4 track EP as each track delivers a metal onslaught from beginning to end. Without a doubt, this initial journey is an epic melding of synth goodness with unyielding traditional metal that will have you listening time and time again until (hopefully) a yet unannounced full-length reaches our greedy ears. If you are a metal fan of the revitalized era of traditional heavy metal, you won’t want to miss out on this brilliant release.
