Tineidae's Debut "Exo" is a Mural of Celestial Master Strokes and Dark, Galactic Wonder

New to the Cryo Chamber roster, Tineidae releases the epic debut Exo, a cinematic, synth-laden mural of celestial master strokes. This album hits the Starline running; no slow introduction, no small steps - this thing takes off immediately, soaring into a fresco of synth and sound design heralding traces of a Berlin School, merged with tremulous dark ambiance, for which Cryo Chamber is known.

The textures of sound carry the narrative of this masterwork perfectly through an aural escort. This is the ambiance of cosmic horror, and dark, galactic wonder; of hard sci-fi and political intrigue over the backdrop of space. The oblique narrative is exactly what this album needs, for some listeners, the story may take on a more malevolent shift in tone, with extraterrestrial antagonisms, while others may prefer their narrative contained within the limitless possibilities of the unknown horrors at mankind's failings, or of the moribund sciences. Exo is a true definition of "cinematic dark ambient". As with all Cryo Chamber releases, there is a vague narrative given as a precis for the listener to begin their journey, with song titles helping to nudge the story without hindering the listener’s momentum of imagination (and I will not type it - you can read it for yourself, while you turn on the first track and begin the adventure).

Tineidae reveals a cinematic grandeur not heard in many dark ambient albums, and it toes the line without plummeting directly into fantasy ambient or “Tangerine Dream” territory… yet the nods and influences are evident. At times there is an archaic sense of cosmic awareness of scale and scope which keeps this album localized in the realm of the dark and tenuous. Sweeping, attenuated arpeggios expose a cosmic grandeur of synth works; this is one of Cryo Chamber's strongest releases, and my favorite of the year, thus far.

Exo is available on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page in digital format and in CD digipak.
