Hear the Tale of an Ancient Goddess in Sylvan, by Dead Melodies

One of Cryo Chamber’s greatest storytellers returns to the loom to weave yet another enthralling and original audio tale. Tom Moore brings us Sylvan by Dead Melodies, an inspired fantasy tale as can only be told by him. Drawing upon mythos and legend, Dead Melodies has created a cosmological epic girded in fantastical lore and the imagination of the listener, showing once again the strength and magnetism of a good storyteller - by delivering a compelling narrative, the listener journeys through each track of the album, their mind creating the vistas upon which the subtle musical cues have proffered.

Sylvan is the aeon-spanning tale of a tribal folk secluded in their forest home, and their beneficent deity, an obsidian-feathered seraphim named Zephyra, who guides the tribe throughout their histories. These tracks are a sublime mosaic of atmospheric soundscapes, with field recordings and subtle electronica woven within the whole. The use of organic instrumentation laced with electronics gives the timbre of the album an ethereal quality - a melding between the mortal (known) and the ethereal (godlike). These compositions deftly weave between evoking emotions of mystery and even awe - the wonder and undoubted trepidation that a human would feel in the presence of a god, but again, merely acting as pylon, while organic instrumentation rides atop.

Dead Melodies never disappoints with a release, and especially when an inspired story takes hold of its composer and we delivered such high quality storytelling as this album. Sylvan is a definite addition to the Cryo Chamber library, and certainly a must-listen for fans of organic soundscapes and fantastical escapism. I would most certainly recommend this for fans of Dead Melodies’ previous album, Fabled Machines of Old and Randal Collier-Ford’s Advent. You can purchase Sylvan in CD digipak and digital formats on the Cryo Chamber Bandcamp page.
