Beyond the Event Horizon - The New Alphaxone and Dronny Darko Collaboration

A new collaboration from two of the finest artists in the drone ambient scene has been released on Cryo Chamber, and connoisseurs of the genre will certainly be pleased. Alphaxone, whose lush pad artistry has been entertaining and aurally massaging minds for years has joined once again with Dronny Darko, one of the greatest in epic drone masterworks - together they have crafted another epic tale of sonic escapism, Beyond the Event Horizon. The last time these two projects collaborated on an album was 2017’s eerie ambient adventure, Forsaken, and it is always a treat to hear two artists of such skill join together under one theme and explore the sonic boundaries with their talents.

Sometimes dark, many times dreamy, these tracks are each wholly unique, and yet collectively blend to create a comfortable blanket of evolving sonic textures that slowly massage the transom while listening, a talent that not many in this genre can boast, and yet such talent is ever present with these two artists. Such examples of textured envelopment are the lush pads from the second track, Out of Orbit, which drift aimlessly along, meandering with subtle directions with no discernable goal, while field recordings in Perpetual Motion add an almost “virtual” feeling to the track - even an ASMR quality - while the subtle pads slowly wash over you. The track In the Arms of Singularity has a steady rhythmic electronic sound, repeatedly adding a “telemetry” feel, almost artificial, yet the droning pads of the background continue to envelop the listener, feeling as if the track is building to some monumental climax, and creating even more mystery while the mind’s eye contemplates the unfathomable complexities of a black hole, and even the track Interwoven adds a mysterious quality to the album, intriguing, glass-like synths ring in the foreground, as once again melodious pads merge in the periphery, much as a nebulous cloud would slowly ebb along the folds of eternity in deep space.

Each track feels as if they are gaining in momentum, leading the album ever onward, yet never does the momentum break, but rather the precise inertia of the droning pads keep the listener blanketed in the miasma of the lush soundscapes. This is yet another masterful showcase in languid, inexorable droning synth whose true unique qualities and details are best shown through the skills of such adept artists, and Alphaxone and Dronny Darko are two such skilled artisans.
